Keywords & profiles
What BrandSonar searches for, what it throws away, and which accounts are yours. Almost every complaint about a noisy feed is fixed on this page.
The setup wizard filled all of this in from your website. Revisit it at Settings → Keywords, where the three cards stack in the order they take effect: find, then filter, then attribute.
Keywords
The terms BrandSonar searches for. Your brand name belongs here, and so does anything else people call you: product names, abbreviations, common misspellings, and the way your name gets split in two (mail chimp for Mailchimp).
Domains go in the same list. Add acme.com and posts linking to your site are caught even when nobody writes your name.
Keywords and domains share one allowance: 5 on Plus, 20 on Pro. The counter in the card's footer shows where you are against it.
Negative keywords
A post containing any of these is skipped during scanning, so it never reaches scoring and never appears in the feed. You get 5 per brand, which is deliberate: they are meant to be the handful of terms that account for most of your false positives, not a general-purpose blocklist.
They earn their keep when your brand name is also an ordinary word. A company called Linear adds linear algebra and linear regression; Mailchimp adds mail chimpanzee. Look at what is actually cluttering your low-relevance tier and write down the pattern.
Negative keywords are a better first move than raising the relevance floor. They remove one specific kind of noise; a higher floor removes everything marginal, including the borderline mentions that turn out to matter.
Profiles
Your own social accounts. Adding them lets BrandSonar tell your posts apart from other people talking about you. Without it, your own announcements arrive as mentions of yourself.

When changes take effect
Edits apply to the next scan rather than retroactively. Adding a keyword will not backfill mentions from last month, and removing one leaves the mentions it already found in place. If the feed still looks wrong after a change, give it a scan cycle. See Platforms for how often that is on your plan.
Competitors have their own
Each competitor keeps a separate set of keywords and negative keywords, edited from that competitor's own settings page. Changing yours does not touch theirs.
